Weekend sewing.

Since I'm calling this a sewing/family life blog I better show off some sewing.  Here is a pillow I made this weekend for my mom.
It came out pretty nice, yes?  My mom got me these stencils a couple years ago and we do them together, along with my daughter, about every other time she comes to visit.  They don't always come out PERFECT, mostly because the technique itself requires a more delicate hand than I usually have, but I do really like the small "flubs and errors" that make each creation look natural and human-made.  I have two sets of April's stencils, the Nasturium and the Poppy.  I love these! I love playing around with them and coming up with ways to use our small masterpieces.

These stencils are made by an amazing independent artist, April Sproule.  Check out her work here:  http://www.sproulestudios.com/

My next attempt with these will be to put some flat cotton batting behind the creation and attempt to give it a 3-D look by quilting around it.  I see this a lot in April's work and it's amazing.  While I consider myself merely a sewer, April is truly an artist.  Her website links to her blog and both are very inspiring.

Insane blooms, insane seeds!

I've grown several different types of hollyhocks for a couple years now.  They typically don't flower the first year they're sown so I always forget what's planted where.  I ALWAYS wish I'd kept or was keeping a garden journal,  but alas, I just never have.  The best I can do is to take photos of the yard every couple of months.
